Solitaire Diamond and Gold Antique Art-Deco Ring
Regular price $485.00
This solitaire diamond ring was actually once upon a time a men's shirt stud. The single, old cut diamond, is set within a 9k gold setting. Old cuts date from a time when each diamond was hand cut in day light and according to the diamond's best qualities, as opposed to today's diamonds which are classified to meet the standard of a cut which is scientifically calculated to allow the maximum refraction of light within the stone. The diamond within its setting is salvaged from a turn-of-the-century shirt stud, which would have been worn in a men's shirt, and the band is a reproduction of a Victorian ring band cast in recycled 10k yellow gold.
The setting and the diamond it contains date back to a wonderful time in antique jewelry, approximately a century or more ago when Victorian styles were giving way to more modern and streamlined motifs. Settings and galleries were designed most often in elegant combinations of odd numbers--featured alone, as in this solitaire, or in three's and five's...always following a mathematically pleasing pattern, a geometry or a flower perfectly falling into the proportions of the Golden Mean...
We imagine that this ring would make a wonderful engagement ring or stacking band, to commemorate an anniversary, celebrate an April birthday, or delight its new owner just because it is beautiful whether alone or in a group.
